JELANI EDDINGTON GIVES LECTURE, CONCERT AT SOUTH SUBURBAN COLLEGE
SOUTH HOLLAND, IL -- On September 15, 2004, Jelani Eddington presented a lecture and concert at South Surburban College
in South Holland, Illinois.
The event was organized by Michael Cierski, the American Theatre Organ Society's (ATOS) Youth
Representative, and was co-sponsored by ATOS and the Joliet Area Theatre Organ Enthusiasts (JATOE). The Beautiful Sound,
the Chicago-area Allen Organ dealer, graciously provided an Allen R-311 Renaissance Theatre Organ for the performances.
During the 12:00 p.m. lecture, an estimated 400 students, faculty, and community members attended Jelani's discussion on
the topic of The Role Of The Theatre Organ In The American Musical Experience. In addition to discussing the history,
tradition, and uses of the theatre organ, Jelani also accompanied the 1929 MGM Laurel & Hardy silent comedy, Double Whoopee.
At 7:30 that evening, Jelani also presented a full-length theatre organ concert for approximately 250 enthusiastic
attendees, the vast majority of whom had never experienced the sounds of a theatre organ.
