JELANI EDDINGTON AND PATTI SIMON TO PLAY ODGEN WURLITZER GALA INAUGURATION
MADISON, WISCONSIN. Jelani Eddington and Patti Simon-Zollman will be the first theatre organists
to play the rebuilt 3-manual 22-rank Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ installed in Peery's Egyptian
Theatre in Odgen, Utah. This gala inaugural event will take place on the evening of July 14, 2004.
The theatre, which itself has been beautifully restored, was built in 1923 when former Ogden mayor and local businessman,
Harman Peery, along with his brother, Louis, decided to create a movie palace. The finished product, Peery’s Egyptian Theatre,
opened on July 3, 1924 and boasted an Egyptian theme. Although the theatre was closed in 1985 after years of neglect, it was beautifully restored and reopened
in January of 1997 as a 800-seat performing arts/movie theatre.
Peery's Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ has been painstakingly rebuilt under the direction of the Kansas-based firm Zollman Pipe Organ Services. The opening of this instrument
in July will be a wonderful addition to the theatre and a terrific asset to Ogden's musical community.
The July 14th gala concert will include solo and duet performances from both Jelani Eddington and Patti Simon and will include a showing
of the 1929 Laurel & Hardy classic comedy, Liberty. Tickets to the gala Wurlitzer inauguration can be obtained directly from the theatre's Online Express Ticketing Service.
