THEATRE ORGANS OF SOUTH AFRICA


The following is a list of the theatre organs of South Africa.

  • 4/16 Wurlitzer from the 20th Century Theatre, Johannesburg, now located in the Afrikaans Presbyterian Church, Randburg (a satellite town in Greater Johannesburg)
  • 3/17 Wurlitzer from the Metro Theatre, Johannesburg, now located in the Civic Theatre, Witbank, Mphumalanga Province. This used to be the residence organ the late Dean Herrick, pupil of Jesse Crawford and boyhood friend of Ronald Reagan.
  • 2/8 Wurlitzer from the Capitol Theatre, Pretoria, now located in the foyer of State Theatre, Pretoria
  • 2/8 Wurlitzer from the Alhambra Theatre, Cape Town, now located in the Artscape Theatre, Cape Town (formerly Nico Malan Opera House)
  • 3/10 Christie from the Pavilion, Marble Arch, London, now located in the Port Elizabeth West Seventh Day Adventist Chuch
  • 3/8 Wurlitzer from the U.K. cinema, now located in Shelley Beach, KwaZulu-Natal
  • 3/13 Wulitzer from the Metro Theatre,Durban now located at Retonia Studios, St.Gallen, Switzerland
  • 3/11 Moeller from the late Leslie Wenman's home theatre, Westcliff, Johannesburg, now located at August Lauckhuff Organ Builders, Weikersheim,Gerrnany
  • 2/8 from the Bijou Theatre, Johannesburg, now located in a church in Harare, Zimbabwe
  • 2/8 from the Plaza Theatre Wurlitzer,Johannesburg. The instrument has been parted out.
There is also a 4/137 Kimball symphonic organ in the Pretoria City Hall, which has, among other things, twelve percussions.
